  Canada Post Service Disruption Ended
June 28, 2011

Canada Post reports that it has initiated the process to resume operations as a result of back to work legislation passed on June 26, 2011. As a result, they indicate that Canadian consumers and businesses can expect to start receiving mail on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

The Board will resume sending letters and cheques by regular mail this week, including any mail that had been held by our office during the postal disruption.

For those pensioners receiving their monthly pension payments by cheque, June pension cheques will be mailed on June 29. Anyone receiving a pension cheque by mail is encouraged to consider direct deposit. A direct deposit form is available by clicking here. Completed forms can be mailed or faxed to our office.

Canada Post warns that it will take some time to return to normal delivery standards.

Canada Post Service Disruption - Update
June 16, 2011

Canada Post has suspended operation. We understand the federal government has served notice to introduce back-to-work legislation next week.

If postal service has not resumed by June 29th, we intend to send Civil Service Superannuation Fund June pension cheques for Manitoba residents to the Manitoba Government Mail Distribution Agency (MDA) for distribution to the various centres throughout Manitoba. We understand that it can take up to four days for a cheque to get to a particular distribution centre, so cheques would likely be available for pick-up around July 7th. For pensioners living in Manitoba who are unsure which location would have their cheque, please call 1-866-626-4862, or visit www.gov.mb.ca (Postal disruption information can be found under the “Quick Links” about half way down the left side of the page).

For pensioners not living in Manitoba, June cheques would be held in our office until further notice.

Anyone receiving a pension cheque by mail is encouraged to consider direct deposit. A direct deposit form is available by clicking here. Completed forms can be faxed to our office.

We began holding mail and cheques (other than pension cheques for Manitoba residents) on June 16 th. Anyone wanting to pick up a cheque (excludes Manitoba resident pension cheques) or mail would be required to provide satisfactory photo identification. If someone other than the payee is picking up the cheque, a satisfactory written authorization by the payee or a legal representative is also required.

Canada Post Service Disruption - Update
June 7, 2011

Canada Post employees are striking on a rotating basis. It appears that most mail is still being delivered, with either slight or no delays.

For pensioners living in Manitoba, May cheques were sent to the Manitoba Government’s mail distribution organization on May 30th, and we understand that it can take up to four days for a cheque to get to a particular distribution centre. If you are unsure which location has your cheque, please call 1-866-626-4862, or visit www.gov.mb.ca (Postal disruption information can be found under the “Quick Links” about half way down the left side of the page). If the postal disruption is not resolved by June 29th, we will likely send the June pension cheques for Manitoba residents to the Manitoba Government mail distribution agency for distribution to the various centres throughout Manitoba. Cheques would be available for pick-up around July 7th.

For pensioners not living in Manitoba, May cheques were put in the mail on June 7th, and June cheques would likely be put in the mail on June 29th unless there is a full postal strike or lock-out at that time.

Anyone receiving a pension cheque by mail is encouraged to consider direct deposit. A direct deposit form is available by clicking here. Completed forms can be faxed to our office.

We have been holding mail and cheques other than pension cheques for Manitoba residents since May 18th, but resumed using regular mail on June 7th.

We expect to continue receiving mail, and that mail we send will generally be delivered with no significant delay. We will continue to monitor the strike action.

  Mail Distribution On Hold
updated May 31, 2011

In response to a possible Canada Post Corporation labour disruption, the Manitoba Government agency we use for mail distribution has instructed our office that after Tuesday, May 17th, 2011, we should hold all mail until they advise us differently.

Mail, other than cheques, is available at the Board's office but if there is a high demand, we may not be able to avoid long wait times.

Pension cheques for May 2011 were sent on May 30, 2011 for delivery to the Manitoba Government's mail distribution points within Manitoba. More information is available by clicking here. As there may be a slight delay in getting pension cheques to the various distribution points, please call the Citizen Inquiry Line at 1-866-626-4862 or visit www.manitoba.ca before going to pick up your cheque and you will be provided with a number to call to ensure your cheque is ready.

Pension cheques for addresses outside of Manitoba will be held in our office and mailed once the postal issue is resolved.

Anyone receiving a pension cheque by mail is encouraged to consider direct deposit. A CSSB direct deposit form is available by clicking here and can be faxed to our office.

We expect to continue receiving mail through Canada Post unless there is an actual disruption in delivery. We accept most documents by fax and information that is not confidential can be emailed.
